Hr.Ms. Putten (M 864) 2015-2017

The Hr.Ms. Putten was a Dutch Minesweeper of the type MMS 105. The orginal was build in 1943 by the Brittish shipyard J.W. & A. Buckham in Brixham. It was named af an island in South-Holland "Putten". At the start of the war, the immediate need for a large number of minesweepers was remedied by requisitioning a large number of fishing trawlers and drifters. The Motor Mine Sweepers were made of wood, which caused no magnetic field to begin with. The Netherlands Navy acquired a number of these ships, and named them after Dutch islands. The new ships were manned largely by the former trawler crews, composed mainly of militarized fishermen. They performed well, operating from Great Yarmouth and Harwich in the 139th Minesweeper Flotilla, and later off mainland Europe. After the war, these ships spent some years clearing the North Sea of mines. The Hr. Ms. Putten was decorated with a "Mention in Dispatches" because of special sweeping operations in the harbour of Oostende. It was the first Dutch warship in this liberated harbour. We did build this ship from scratch on scale 1:50 as a static model. Building starts at the end of 2015 and was fisnished in 2017.
