Hr.Ms. Onverschrokken (M866) 2009-2015
The building of minesweeper Hr. Ms. Onverschrokken M886 (1:50), built as the former USS 483 an Ocean Minesweeper. The original ship was build from 1952-1954. When in 1955 the ship was given to the Dutch Marine (Marshallplan) the name of the minesweeper didn't change, only the hull number changed in M886. In (Marshallplan) was rebuild as "Torpedo Trial Tender" and got new name and hull number, Hr. Ms. Mercuur A856 (Auxiliary ship).
In the end of 2009 we started building this model from scratch. This is our second scale model we built from the drawing board. Fortunately the schip can still be visited in Scheveningen Harbour, so we have the possibility to take as much photographs as we like. Because there are modifications made to the ship through the years, we also use old pictures for the original parts.
The hull will be made of wood just like the original one and for the rest of the model we used other material like messing and ABS-plate. The material we used depend on the function of the part we made: was it decorative or functional. We will build this as a static model. In the photo section you will find more photos about the building of this vessel. At the end of 2015 the model was finished and should be showed on board of the museumship "Mercuur"with hull number A 856 but it didnt work out that way.
It was great working from scratch. We did have not much photographs of the orginal Hr.Ms. Onverschrokken, but the Hr.Ms. Mercuur was a good point for reference.
